Diana NyadJust before 2pm on Monday, September 2nd, Diana Nyad arrived in Key West, Florida.

What was so spectacular about her arrival you ask?

She swam to Key West…

From Cuba…

Over 100 miles in 53 hours…

Without a protective cage…

At 64 years old…

After failing on 4 previous attempts…

Over a span of 35 years!!

Shortly after conquering the Straits of Florida, the 64-year-old endurance swimmer said in an interview.

“It’s all authentic. It’s a great story. You have a dream 35 years ago — doesn’t come to fruition, but you move on with life. But it’s somewhere back there. Then you turn 60, and your mom just dies, and you’re looking for something. And the dream comes waking out of your imagination.”diana-nyad

This incredibly courageous woman had an unrealistic, ridiculous fantasy of a goal back in the late 70’s and she tried and failed.  Like so many people she moved on. “Okay, I gave it a shot and it didn’t work out… oh well…”

But, like all worthy goals, it never quite died – it was always there in the back of her mind.

At age 60, she resumed her quest.  And she failed… again …. and again … and again.

The last time she tried she had to quit because of all the jellyfish stings she received ON HER TONGUE!!!

But she persisted and she would not quit.  And today she is an American hero.

Well done Ms. Nyad!  We salute your persistence, your belief in yourself and your dream and your courage in making it a reality!!!

What worthy goals do you have for yourself, your life, your business?  They don’t have to be as big or as crazy as swimming from Cuba to Florida, but you have to keep going – even when it seems you have failed and all is lost – you have to keep going.

You can always use Diana Nyad’s mantra … “Find a way!”
